Ashish Nehra Career

Background

He rose through the ranks as a result of his domestic cricket accomplishments. He has participated in Delhi Ranji competition. At the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi, he used to train. There are many legends about him and Virender Sehwag travelling to and from practice.

Debut

On February 24, 1999, he participated in his first international encounter, a Test match against Sri Lanka. In one of his only innings, he picked 1/94. He removed Marvan Atapattu from the game. The majority of the game was impacted by rain, which led to a tie.

Later, in 2001, he played against Zimbabwe in his first ODI. At Harare, he took 2/33 as India easily defeated the opposition by 9 wickets. Alistair Campbell was his first ODI victim.

Rise to Glory

His ascent to fame started after the 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup. In the competition, he bowled some spells that were fascinating. In ODI matches against England, he recorded his greatest bowling statistics. He swung the ball both ways and took 6/23.

It was even better because he had just fully recovered from an ankle problem. His career’s high point continues to be this game. He was one of the best pacers India has ever had and bowled some more incredible periods of seam and swing bowling. When it comes to Indian fast bowlers, he was at the top of the list.

Low Points

His continual ailments, rather than poor performances, were what ultimately brought him to disgrace. After the 2003 World Cup, he did not appear in many games and was in and out of the team. He only participated in 164 games for India despite having played for almost 18 years.
