Beginning of Cricket Career
Rahul Dravid participated in the U-15, U-17, and U-19 age divisions for the Karnataka state team, which earned him a spot on the state’s Ranji Trophy team. In the 1991–92 year, he made his Ranji debut for Karnataka.
He amassed 380 runs overall at an average of 63.3 in his outstanding debut season. There were a few hundreds in it. Later, he was chosen to represent South Zone in the Duleep Trophy.
International debut and rise to glory
Rahul Dravid participated in his debut international game in Sri Lanka during the ODI series. A few months later, he played in his first Test match at Lord’s against England and scored 95 runs in his opening innings.
He was labelled a sluggish batsman in ODIs and found it difficult to make the team.
He overcame this criticism, enhanced his batting in ODIs, and solidified his position in the ODI team as well. In the 1999 World Cup, three years after his debut, he was at his best. He surpassed everyone in the event in runs scored with 461 runs.
In addition to batting, Rahul Dravid spent a significant amount of time keeping wickets in ODIs for India. As wicketkeeper, he has contributed to 84 dismissals, with 71 catches and 13 stumpings. As a non-wicketkeeper in Test matches, he holds the record for most catches (210).
Captaincy
Rahul captained India in 25 Test matches, winning 8 and losing 6. His 32-win record doesn’t really represent his leadership abilities. His ODI statistics are superior. Out of the 79 ODIs played under him, India won 42.
The failure of the Indian cricket team at the 2007 World Cup was one of Dravid’s lowest moments as captain.
