The Full form of NAAC is National Assessment and Accreditation Council. NAAC is an autonomous body in India that assesses and accredits Higher Education. It is established by the UGC (University Grants Commission) of India after the recommendations of the National Policy in Education in 1986 which emphasized on the quality of higher education in India. NAAC headquarters is in Bangalore and was established in the year 1994. As of August 2017, Prof.
Dhirendra Pal Singh is the Director of NAAC since August 2015. The president of General Council is Prof. Ved Prakash and the Chairman of the Executive Committee of NAAC is Dr. Virender S. Chauhan. Making quality a defining factor for higher education is the vision of NAAC in India. It is done through promotion, quality evaluation, and other initiatives.
To fulfill this vision, NAAC has divided its mission into various tasks which are: periodic assessment and accreditation of institutions of higher education, arrangement of specific academic programmes and projects to enhance the quality of education, to encourage accountability, self-evaluation, innovation and autonomy in higher education, to undertake training programmes, research studies and consultancy related to quality education. The core values of NAAC are to contribute to national development, to impart global competencies among students, to promote the technology in education and the quest for quality.
