UGC Asks Varsities To Start Recruitment Process After Cabinet Clears Reservation Roster Ordinance
The Union cabinet approved the proposal of promulgation of central educational institutions (reservation system for appointment of faculties) ordinance, 2019 on Thursday. The University Grants Commission (UGC) wrote to the Vice Chancellor’s of the universities following this clearance to immediately start the recruitment process which was put on hold since July last year. The official statement read, “A copy of the MHRD notification dated March 7, 2019 and the Central Educational institutions Ordinance, 2019 is attached for the strict compliance. The Varsities are requested to start the recruitment process immediately.”

According to the official statement, this decision will certainly improve the teaching standards in the universities. Also, it will allow filling up of more than 5000 vacancies by the direct recruitment which shall be complying with the constitutional provisions of articles 14, 16 and 21, so that the stipulated reservation criteria is met. This communication by UGC came after the approval of restoring the 200 point roster based reservation system in higher institutes.
Now, in 200- point roster system, all the eligible candidates will be attracted as it will consider one university as one unit and not a department or a subject. This will definitely help to improved the education standards in higher educational institutes.

Recently, teacher associations like Delhi University Teaching Association (DUTA) and Jawaharlal Nehru University Teaching Association (JNUTA) were on the forefronts of protests against UGC when UGC stopped this 200-point roster system. However, they have welcomed this decision of cabinet.
