The Full form of UKG is Upper Kindergarten. Kindergarten specifies a nursery school or babysitter for the 3-4 years old children. It is a German word which literally means “Garden for Children“. The duration of UKG is 1 year. The children spend around 3-4 hours in UKG in a day and are engaged in learning activities, a wide range of lessons, and recreational activities.
Before stepping into the primary education, there are three years of elementary education in accordance with the education system in India. These three years are Nursery, LKG (Lower Kindergarten), and UKG (Upper Kindergarten). This elementary education is very important for children as it helps them to build a strong foundation of education and makes them more comfortable for the primary education. Upper Kindergarten contains the sessions of playing, writing, painting, singing, music etc.
These kinds of sessions are important and basic building block that prepares the kids for primary education. The nursery class is not mandatory in some schools to get admission in LKG. They provide admission directly in LKG. But, the nursery class or LKG is mandatory to get admission in UKG. The word Kindergarten was first used in 1837 by Friedrich Frobel for the Play and Activity school that he created. He opened that school as a social experiment for kids for their transition from home to school.
