UGC to introduce Life Skill course
UGC to introduce Life skill courses – The officials from the University Grants Commission (UGC) have announced that the body which governs all recognised Universities in the Country, plans to introduce Life Skills or simply ‘Jiwan Kaushal’ programme in its curriculum of Higher Education for the upcoming academic year.
This new programme aims to inculcate intellectual as well as emotional competencies in the students. It will help them manage their times and overcome stress in an effective manner. Under this ‘Jeewan Kaushal’ programme there would be four courses – Professional Skills, Universal Human Values, Leadership Skills as well as the Communication Skills. It will also focus on several other core values such as Decision Making, Team Work, Problem Solving, etc.
The UGC has constituted an expert committee which is currently working to develop the curriculum of this content. It has been given time till August 31, 2019 in order to submit its report. The committee has designed this course by keeping the UG students in focus particularly.
A source has stated that with this programme, the UGC aims to help the students in managing their professional as well as personnel skills. They should be able to handle the daily problems such as stress, anxiety, etc., that arises in the daily lives while managing the personal and professional life. It will also help them to manage their insecurities as well as the fears. With this course, they would be able to grow fully.

In the current academic year, the selected academic institutes are offering similar courses. However, the UGC plans to introduce it on a large scale by launching it compulsorily in Private, Central and Deemed Universities as well as Colleges. UGC will introduce it in January 2020 in English and Hindi languages as of now. Soon it would be launched in other regional language as well.
The UGC Source further stated that with this course, its faculty would act as a trainer, facilitator as well as the mentor to the enrolled students. Teachers from various High Education Institutes would have to undergo orientation and training programme to master this course.
