NTA to review the situation for conducting NEET, JEE Main 2020 examinations in July
Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ on Thursday has asked the National Testing Agency (NTA) to review the situation and check the feasibility to conduct the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) 2020 examination in July. The NTA has been asked to submit a review report by Friday. The decision on whether to conduct or defer the examinations, accordingly, would be taken by the MHRD.
The NEET 2020 exam is scheduled to be conducted on July 26 while JEE Main 2020 is scheduled to be conducted from July 18-23, 2020.
The HRD Minister said in a tweet – ‘Looking at the prevailing circumstances & requests received from students & parents appearing for #JEE & #NEET examinations, a committee consisting of @DG_NTA & other experts has been advised to review the situation & submit its recommendations to @HRDMinistry latest by tomorrow.’
He also said, “I have been getting a lot of requests from NEET and JEE aspirants over email and on my social media asking the ministry to postpone the exams.”
With an increasing number of COVID-19 cases across the country, the government is either canceling various board exams or postponing many entrance exams. The students have expressed concerns over present situations and even stated that writing an exam for three hours with a mask is not possible.
A plea in the Supreme Court is also filed by the parents of NEET aspirants of Middle East demanding new centers to be allotted to the students for NEET exams or to postpone the exams for the students from Doha, Qatar, Dubai, UAE, and other Middle East countries.
