The Full form of BHEL is Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited. BHEL is founded and owned by the Government of India, is a manufacturing and engineering company based in New Delhi, India. It was established in 1964 and it is the largest and oldest power generation equipment manufacturer in India. Apart from power plant equipment, it is actively engaged in engineering, manufacturing, design, servicing, and testing of various products of the key sectors of economy like Transportation (Railways), Power, Oil & Gas, Water, Transmission, and Defence.
BHEL alone generates around 20,000 MW per annum out of the available 35,000 MW power generated in the country. The operations of the company mainly belong to 3 business sectors which are Power, Industry (Transmission, Transportation, Renewable Energy, and Telecommunication), and Overseas Business. At present, BHEL operates 17 manufacturing units, 8 service centres, 15 regional centres, 4 regional offices, 6 joint ventures, and 2 repair units. With the help of these units and offices, the company is able to execute and operate more than 150 projects in India and abroad.
BHEL is also one of the largest exporters of engineering products and services. It exports in more than 60 countries globally. Some key products exported by BHEL are EPC contracts, complete power stations, HV/EHV Sub-stations, turnkey contracts for power plants, O&M services for familiar technologies, etc.
