Construction work involves dealing with clients, architects, government officials, contactors and the supervision of work according to standards. Their work also involves the maintenance and repair of the project.
The major specializations within civil engineering are structural, water resources, environmental, construction, transportation, geo-technical engineering etc. On most projects, civil engineers work in teams or in coordination with many other engineers. They can find work as a supervisor of a construction site or a managerial position or in design, research as well as teaching in government services or private concerns. Salaries in Government Organizations:
A fresher in this field can join as assistant engineers or junior engineer or trainee in the public sector firms, while an experienced can get the designations like senior engineer, executive engineer, etc. The salary for these graduates is also good in public sectors. In India, civil engineers at the entry level can expect a salary from Rs.8,000 to Rs.12,000 per month. However it will increase depending on their experience and skills. Their salaries range from Rs.20,000 to Rs.25,000.
Salaries in Private Institutions:
There are numerous job opportunities for these graduates in private sectors also. The pay packages for these graduates are high compared to the public firms. At entry level, the private companies give salary up to Rs.30, 000/- per month for them. Naturally an experienced one can expect more which will range from Rs.50, 000/- to Rs.60, 000/- per month.
