The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Kolkata, Indore, Kozhikode, Lucknow and Shillong are one of the top-level institutions that offer two-year fulltime postgraduate programmes in management. IIMs hold Common Admission Test (CAT) every year to admit students to their postgraduate programmes in management.
Those who have a degree in engineering/ technology with at least 50 per cent marks (45 per cent marks for SC/ ST/ PH students) and those appearing for the final qualifying examination are eligible to appear for IIM-CAT conducted across the country.
The CAT score is valid for a year; several institutions consider CAT score for short-listing candidates for group discussion and interview for MBA admission.
The IIM Kozhikode motivates students to specialise in two areas in their PG programme in management. The core courses comprise finance, control and accounting, quantitative methods and operations management, general management, marketing, IT and systems, strategy, organisational behaviour and human resource management and economics.
Every year, in the month of March, the final placement process for the graduating batch takes place. IIMs students always have placed at excellent firms over the years. At IITs
The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are also among the premier institutes that offer management education. SJ Mehta School of Management at IIT Bombay and Vinod Gupta School of Management at IIT Khargpur are the top business schools.
Other IITs at Delhi, Kanpur, Madras and Roorkee also offer postgraduate programmes in management. The selection is based on joint management entrance test (JMET) conducted by IITs.
Those who qualify JMET will be short-listed for group discussion and interview. It is the only screening test.
SJ Mehta School of Management, IIT Bombay, offers a Master of Management course. First class BE/ B.Tech. Degree holders or M.Sc. degree holders with at least 60 per cent marks are eligible for admission. SC/ ST students require 55 per cent marks for admission. Those who have work experience are desirable but having experience is not mandatory.
IIT Delhi offers MBA courses which with focus on management systems and telecommunication systems management. Candidates who are graduates with at least with at least 60 per cent marks in any branch of engineering/ technology or Master’s degree holders in any branch of physical, chemical or mathematical sciences or commerce with at least 60 per cent marks are eligible for admission.
