ICAI CA, CS, ICWA qualifications to be equivalent to Postgraduate degrees
University Grants Commission on Monday released an order to consider the qualifications awarded by Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICA), Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICWAI) and Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) to be equivalent to Postgraduate degrees. The decision was made at the request of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) to help CAs pursue higher studies and improve their mobility.
UGC constituted a committee to consider the request made by ICAI. The commission considered recommendation of the expert committee and resolved that CA, CS and ICWA qualification be considered equivalent to PG Degrees.
The move was welcomed by ICAI and ICSI. The ICSI said the move will leverage the profession across the globe
This move will leverage the candidates who qualify CA, CS and ICWA exams to pursue doctorate in Commerce and Allied Disciplines.
UGC official order reads, “UGC has received requests from Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) and Institute of Cost Accountants of India, to consider the qualification being awarded by them – CA, CS and ICWA equivalent to postgraduate degrees.”
