GATE Eligibility Criteria 2024 -The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2024 eligibility criteria were published online by IISc Bangalore on the official website, gate2024.iisc.ac.in . In order to sit for GATE, interested candidates must first meet the GATE exam eligibility criteria. GATE 2024 Eligibility Criteria (General)
IISc Bangalore has released eligibility criteria for GATE 2024. It lists a number of elements required like academic qualifications, age limit , nationality etc.
GATE 2024 Age Limit– There is no age limitation to appear for GATE 2024. As the GATE 2024 Examination is intended for individuals seeking admission to master’s programs in technical fields, there is no upper age limit imposed by the organising body. The eligibility to appear for the GATE 2024 Exam is not restricted by any particular age criteria.
GATE 2024 Nationality Criteria : Candidates may register for GATE 2024 whether they live in India or abroad. Foreign Nationals may also apply for the 2024 GATE examination.
GATE 2024 Educational Qualification
A candidate who is currently studying in the third or higher years of any undergraduate degree program or who has already completed any government approved degree program in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Science/Commerce/Arts/Humanities is eligible to appear for GATE 2024.
Some Professional Societies/Institutions, which conduct examinations in various fields of engineering, are given below.
The Institution of Engineers (India) (IE)
- The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)
- The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE)
- The Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI)
- The Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers, including Polymer and Environmental Group (IIChE)
- The Indian Institute of Metals (IIM)
- The Indian Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIIE)
Candidates who possess certification from any such professional societies must ensure that those examinations are approved by MoE/AICTE/UGC/ UPSC as being equivalent to B.E./ B.Tech./ B.Arch./ B.Planning, etc.
Candidates who have obtained/are pursuing their qualifying degree from countries other than India: Candidates must be currently in the 3rd or higher years or must have completed their Bachelor’s degree (of at least three years duration) in Engineering/ Technology/ Science/ Architecture/ Humanities.
Any candidate fulfilling the above-mentioned criteria is eligible to appear for GATE 2024.
GATE 2024 Eligibility Criteria (Paper-wise)

NOTE: If a candidate is pursuing any higher degree or has already obtained a degree higher than that mentioned in the above table, the candidate should select the minimum required qualifying degree while filling out the application form of GATE 2024.
GATE 2024 Eligibility Criteria – Documents Required
Candidates who want to apply online for GATE 2024 may be confused about the documents required for GATE 2024 registration and application form. So here, we are sharing the documents required for filling out the GATE 2024 application form for both national and international candidates.
Candidates applying for the GATE entrance exam have to upload certain documents that validate their eligibility for GATE 2024. It should be noted that scanned certificates have to be uploaded while filling out the application form. Listed below are a few significant points related to eligibility documents to be uploaded by candidates:
- Graduation Degree or Provisional Certificate – A scanned copy of the candidates’ eligibility certificates (Degree Certificate or Certificate from Head of the Department/Institute) in PDF Format.
Candidates with backlogs (failed subjects) in any of the subjects in their qualifying examination will have to upload a copy of any of the mark sheets of the final year issued from the institute where he/she will pursue their qualifying examination. It has to be noted that the internet-downloaded mark sheet will not be accepted under any circumstances.
- Person with Disability (PwD) Certificate ( If Applicable)
PwD (Persons with Disabilities) category candidates will be required to upload a PwD certificate issued by a recognized authority. Candidates who have at least 40% impairment irrespective of the kind of disability will only be provided a concession in the application fee. Candidates will also be required to submit the certificate at the allotted institute at the time of admission.
- Category (SC/ST/OBC/EWS) Certificate ( If Applicable)
SC/ST category candidates have to upload a valid document proof to avail of a concession in the application fee. Certificates issued by authorized officials will only be considered for concession.
- Certificate of Dyslexia ( If Applicable)
Dyslexic candidates will be required to submit a certificate stating the same issued by authorities in order to get the services of a scribe.
Note: GATE 2024 eligibility certificate, as applicable, will need to be uploaded only while filling the online application form and not to be sent by post.
GATE Eligibility Criteria 2024 for M.Tech courses
Students must qualify the GATE in order to participate in the counselling process for the M.Tech through GATE 2024 programme.Candidates who will qualify the cutoff for GATE 2024 will be eligible for GATE 2024 counselling. For GATE, there isn’t a centralised counselling procedure.
The GATE counselling in 2024 will be conducted through the Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) and Centralised Counselling for M.Tech/M.Des (CCMT). In accordance with GATE, applicants seeking admission to IITs must register for COAP; however, for admission to NITs and IIITs, CCMT counselling is held. Keep in mind that applicants who are interested in GATE 2024 counselling must submit separate COAP and CCMT applications.
Additionally, based on GATE results, governmental and private colleges perform their own counselling.
GATE Eligibility Criteria 2024 for International Students
Foreign Nationals/ Indian Nationals residing abroad/Candidates who have obtained/are pursuing their qualifying degree from countries other than India – Candidates must be currently in the 3rd or higher years or must have completed their Bachelor’s degree (of at least three years duration) in Engineering/ Technology/ Science/ Architecture/ Humanities.
Foreign nationals and Indian citizens residing abroad may appear for GATE 2024 by paying the full application fee, but they must choose examination cities within India. They must make their own arrangements for travel and accommodation to appear for the exam at an assigned centre within India.
