The Full form of NCVT is National Council of Vocational Training. NCVT is an advisory body set up in 1956 by the Government of India. Formerly, it was called as National Council of Training in Vocational Trades (NCTVT). National Council of Vocational Training (or NCVT) follows all principles and guidelines that have been laid down by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Directorate General of Training (DGT), Government of India.
There is an another council known as SCVT (State Council of Vocational Training) which also deals with the same matters as NCVT does but in this case at the state level. It is entrusted with advising the Government of India on overall programs/policies, specifying necessary curriculum and standards for craftsmen training and conducting All-India Exams and awarding candidates with National Trade Certificates. The NVCT conducts tests such as the Apprenticeship Training Scheme (ATS), All India Trade Test (AITT), and Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS).
The Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) are controlled by the NCVT as per the policies laid down by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, India. The NCVT ITI conducts examinations on a semester basis, which comprises of a total of 4 semesters. Some of the trades that come under the ITI program are; Electrician, Diesel Mechanic, Fitter, Information Technology, Turner, Stenographer, Automobile, Wireman, Tool and Die Maker, Motor Mechanic, Draughtsman Civil, Draughtsman Mechanical, and more.
