Alex Hales Biography and Net worth

Alex Hales is a well-known player in many domestic T20 leagues. English cricketer Alex Hales was born in Hillingdon, Middlesex, on January 3, 1989. He is a terrific limited-overs cricket batsman, thanks to his incredible striking power.

Hales was one of the figures who played a huge role in England’s journey from the ignominy of the 2015 World Cup exit to becoming the force that it became in white-ball cricket in the next four years. However, the failed drug test completely broke down his relationship with England management and the team’s senior players.

Alex Hales Background

Alex was born to Lisa and Gary Hales in Hillingdon and grew up in west London. He attended both Westbrook Hay School and Chesham High School (now Chesham Grammar School) in Buckinghamshire.

His father Gary too was a cricket enthusiast and broke several local batting records (including 321 not out for Gerrards Cross versus Chalfont St Peter in a limited overs league match in 1991). His grandfather Dennis was a talented tennis player who once forced tennis legend Rod Laver to five sets at Wimbledon.

Strong performances in all forms of the game won Hales an England call-up after just three seasons. He was initially picked up for the Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), where he performed exceedingly well. He also played for a number of teams in the overseas T20 leagues such as Duranto Rajshahi in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Melbourne Renegades and Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League (BBL) and had a brief stint with Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL). But he had to wait for his turn in ODIs and Tests.

After scoring 55 runs off one over in 2005 at the London County Cricket Club Founder Day at Lord’s, the then-15-year-old Hales first met fame. In 2006, he participated in Minor Counties for Buckinghamshire, and in 2007, he represented MCC Young Cricketers in the Second XI Championship.

The young Englishman, who was on trial with Nottinghamshire at the age of 18, stunned everyone by scoring 218 against Derbyshire for the second team in 2007 and ended up signing a two-year deal with them.

In New Zealand in 2008, Hales participated in U-19 tests (149 runs in 2 matches) and ODIs (129 runs in 5 matches). In the 2011 Friends Life T20, Hales’ 544 runs and excellent strike rate of 146 drove him to the England national team’s doors.

Alex Hales Debut

Alex Hales was 16 years old when he was first discovered on the national stage at a Cricket Idol T20 tournament at Lords.

He presently competes for Nottinghamshire and the England cricket team as an opening batsman. In August 2014, he played his first One Day International against India, and in December 2015, he played his first Test against South Africa. He is one of the top Twenty20 batsmen in the world thanks to his aggressive style. The first English batsman to reach a T20I century is Hales. Additionally, he is the only batsman to be out for 99 in both an ODI and a T20I.

In his T20I debut against India in Manchester, England, in August 2011, Hales was only able to last two balls before scoring a duck. In the second game against the West Indies at Oval in September 2011, he atoned for his disastrous debut performance by hitting an unbeaten 62.

Hales was selected for the ODI squad against the West Indies due to his impressive performance at the top of the order, but his debut was postponed due to an injury. In August 2014, Hales made his ODI debut by defeating India at Cardiff with a 40-point performance.

In December 2015 in Durban, he made his Test debut against South Africa and scored 36 runs.

Alex Hales Rise to Glory

Since the Englishman just missed a T20I century against the West Indies in his fifth outing at Trent Bridge in 2012, Alex Hales’ lightning-quick game suits the shorter formats.

In the 2014 ICC T20 World Cup match in Chittagong against Sri Lanka, Hale scored 116 runs off just 64 balls.

Hales won the Man of the Series title in February 2016 while touring South Africa and scoring three straight half-centuries in one-day internationals. His incredible 171 against Pakistan at Trent Bridge, which stands as England’s highest individual ODI score, was played six months later.

Alex Hales Controversy

Hales and colleague Ben Stokes were charged with defaming the sport by the England and Wales Cricket Board(ECB) in September 2017. The accusation was based on an incident that happened outside a Bristol nightclub in September 2017, few hours after England had played the West Indies in a one-day international at the city’s County Ground. Police charged Stokes with assault following the incident, and the ECB postponed its disciplinary hearing until the case was resolved.

The Cricket Disciplinary Commission issued a ruling in December 2018 in reaction to Hales’ actions in Bristol and in regard to “inappropriate photos.”Hales was given a six-match white-ball suspension by the Commission, of which two had already been served. Hales was also given a £17,500 fine, with a 12-month suspension of £10,000 of it. Additionally, Hales had to pay for whatever “suitable training” he needed to complete.

During a hair follicle test in April 2019, Hales revealed he had used a recreational substance. Hales was removed from England’s squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup and all squads before the international season, according to a report by the Guardian, and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) handed him a 21-day suspension because it was his second infraction. Hales’ suspension came when he resigned from Nottinghamshire’s Royal London One.
