Cut off trends of Medical Colleges in India – Medicine is one of the most popular careers in India apart from Engineering. It is one of the well paid jobs and noble careers. Those who have a degree in Medicine also get respect from the society. It is a noble profession where the Medicine Practitioner gets to serve the society in different ways.
Every year around 14 lakhs students appear for this exam. In 2019 alone, around 1410755 Medical aspirants had appeared for this examination. In order to appear for the different Medical entrance exams that are held in India, the students need to have completed XII from a government recognised Board in India with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as the compulsory subjects.
If a student has to pursue a career in Medicine, then he or she will have to pursue an MBBS Degree. The acronym MBBS stands for ‘Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.’ Currently there are approximately 65,000 MBBS seats in different Medical Colleges across the country. Currently, there are 535 Medical colleges in India which are registered with the Medical Council of India (MCI).
Earlier there were several National Level, State level and Institutional Level Entrance Exams in order to grant admission to different Medical colleges across the country for the MBBS seats. But the Government introduced a Single Medical Entrance exam which is National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) in order to fill the MBBS seats. The exam has been held successfully since 2013. It has replaced several premier Medical Entrance tests such as Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER) Entrance exams, State level Common Entrance Tests (CETs), All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi among others.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) is responsible for conducting NEET every year successfully over hundreds of examination centres across India and abroad.
