The Full form of BDO is Block Development Officer. A BDO is designated as an officer in charge for the activities and development of a block (block is a district sub-division). Block Development Officer monitors the implementation of all the programs related to planning and development of the blocks. He has to see that the programmes and plans are approved by the appropriate authorities and are executed efficiently.
He authenticates all documents and letters and signs contracts on behalf of the Panchayat Samiti subject to the prior approval of the appropriate authority. The BDO inspects the financial position of the Panchayats on behalf of the Panchayat Samiti, with special reference to their recovery of loans, the levy of taxes, and regular maintenance of accounts. The BDOs are liable for all the activities of development in the block that are not undertaken by departments like PHE, Forest, PWD, health etc.
The candidates who want to apply for the position of BDO (Block Development Officer), need to have a bachelor’s degree in any discipline (science, arts, commerce) from a recognized university in India. A candidate’s age should be between 21 to 35 years to apply for the exam of BDO.
