DNA Full Form
The Full form of DNA is Deoxyribonucleic acid. Deoxy means lack of an oxygen atom, Ribo means ribose sugar, Nucleic is found in the nucleus of cell and Acid contains negatively charged phosphate ion which is acidic. Deoxyribonucleic acids are hereditary material for human and most other living beings, I.e., they carry the genetic information for growth, development, functioning and reproduction of all known living organisms. DNA consists of four bases, which are Adenine, Guanine, Thymine and Cytosine. All the Information in DNA is stored in the form of sequences of different nucleotides.
To form units called Base Pairs these nucleotide bases pair up with each other, A with T and G with C. DNA is a double-stranded molecule held together by weak hydrogen bonds between base pairs of nucleotides. The molecule forms a double helix in which two strands of DNA spiral about one other. The double helix immensely looks like a long ladder which is twisted into a helix, or coil. The sides of the “ladder” are formed by a backbone of sugar and phosphate molecules, and the “rungs” consist of nucleotide bases joined weakly in the middle by the hydrogen bonds.
