IFS Full Form – Indian Foreign Service or IFS is the diplomatic service of the Government of India, meaning that its representatives influence events with the help of written or spoken speeches. Hence, IFS and its officers handle foreign issues and foreign relations of India in a diplomatic way. IFS consists of civil servants who provide consular service and mark the country’s presence among many international organisations. The service has career diplomats working at the President Secretariat, Prime Minister’s office, the headquarters of Ministry of External Affairs or MEA in New Delhi, more than 160 international diplomatic missions, and several international organisations. It comes under the MEA category and is under the jurisdiction of the same. This service was formed on 9th October, 1946, and has its headquarters at the South Block of New Delhi. There are very few vacancies in IFS. To become an IFA officer, one must clear the IFS UPSC Civil Service Examination. Candidates are recruited with the recommendation of UPSC, the Union Public Service Commission.
