The Full form of PLC is Programmable Logic Controller. A PLC or Programmable Controller is a digital computer used in industries for automation of electromechanical processes which has been adapted for the control of machinery in the manufacturing processes, such as assembly lines, amusement rides, light fixtures, or robotic devices. A PLC has been adapted and ruggedized for any activity that requires ease of programming, high reliability, and process fault diagnosis.
It is also commonly used in household applications such as in washing machines and for civil applications such as controlling traffic signals and elevators. They are used to control and monitor production processes and building systems in many industries. A PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) is an electronic device that takes input from the plant or machine via transmitters and sensors and executes the logic that is programmed in its memory and generates the outputs as per actuators to control the plant or machine.
The advantages of PLC are that it is flexible in nature which means that one model of PLC can be used as per requirement for different operations. It is also easy to install because the installation time is more in hard wired relay based systems as compared to the PLC based control panels.
