Harbhajan Singh Early Life
On July 3, 1980, in Jalandhar, Punjab, Harbhajan Singh Plaha was born to Sardar Sardev Singh Plaha and Avtar Kaur. His mother Avtar Kaur worked as a homemaker, while his father was a businessman who ran a factory that produced ball bearings. Harbhajan has five sisters. He was set to take over the family business, but his father made him focus on cricket instead.
Bhajji was training at Charanjit Singh Bhullar to become a batter prior to working with instructor Davinder Arora as a spin bowler. After Bhullar’s passing, Harbhajan began to gravitate toward off-spin bowling. His father had expressed a desire for his kid to sport the national jersey in the future.

Harbhajan Singh Domestic Career
At the age of 15, Harbhajan Singh made his domestic debut for the state of Punjab in Under-16 against Haryana in 1995. He was chosen for the North Zone Under-16 team and requested to join the national Under-19 young team for an ODI match against South Africa after amassing 32 wickets and 96 runs with his hands.
Harbhajan then received a promotion to the Punjab Under-19s, where he played his first-class debut during the 1997–98 Ranji Trophy tournament. Later, in January 1998, Bhajji represented India at the Under-19 World Cup.

Harbhajan Singh International Career
In the 1997 Test series against Australia, the Indian Board President’s XI selected Harbhajan Singh to play. He was not included in the first two Tests as a result of his mediocre performance in the practice match. In the third Test, he made his international debut but only took one wicket. In April, Harbhajan made his ODI debut in Sharjah,Dubai against New Zealand.
Sourav Ganguly called him unexpectedly and requested that he lead the spin attack against Australia in the 2001 Border-Gavaskar Trophy match. In the series, he took 32 wickets. Despite having a finger injury during the 2003 World Cup, Harbhajan Singh delayed treatment. However, as his condition deteriorated, he underwent a significant operation that rendered him inactive for seven months.
After getting hurt, his form was inconsistent. Singh’s form began to deteriorate in 2006, and he was benched after performing poorly at the 2007 World Cup. But he contributed to India’s victory in the ICC World Twenty20 competition. He delivered a number of match-winning efforts throughout the season. He was unable to keep a consistent berth in the Indian squad from 2007 to 2010. Thanks to his outstanding bowling in the IPL, he was able to rejoin the 2011 World Cup team. However, he struggled with his play after the World Cup and was unable to hold onto his position in the Indian roaster.

Harbhajan Singh Political Career
Singh was one of the five candidates from the state of Punjab chosen by the Aam Aadmi Party to represent them in the Rajya Sabha in March 2022. He was officially elected as a Rajya Sabha member after winning the election without any opposition.
Harbhajan Singh took his oath on July 18, 2022, the first day of the Monsoon session of Parliament, to serve as a representative from Punjab in the Rajya Sabha.

Controversy
Despite being one of India’s greatest spin wizards, Harbhajan’s career was plagued by numerous disputes.
Greg Chappell and Sourav Ganguly had a nasty argument in 2005, and Bhajji publicly criticised the coach while defending his captain. According to Harbhajan, the camp was filled with “fear and insecurity” as a result of Chappell’s rigid techniques.
Altercations with Andrew Symonds and Sreesanth- Later in 2008, he became involved in another scandal known as “Monkeygate.” For reportedly calling Australian batsman Andrew Symonds a “monkey,” Harbhajan was charged with a Level 3 offence of racial abuse.
As was previously said, Harbhajan is a well-known player in the IPL. Harbhajan’s slapping of Sreesanth will remain a notorious moment from the 2008 season. After the game between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at Mohali, Bhajji, who was heading the Mumbai Indians, slapped Sreesanth. He was suspended for the remaining games in addition to being fined the match money for the game.
