Moeen Ali Controversy

Talima Nasreen : In a tweet, Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen asserted that Moeen Ali would have joined a terrorist group if it weren’t for cricket. This was not well received, and the English all-rounder received support from the entire cricket community.

Later, she withdrew the tweet and replaced it with another, claiming it was satirical and that it had been turned into a controversy to “humiliate” her.

Wrist Band Controversy : Players are forbidden from “conveying messages that relate to political, religious, or racial actions or causes,” according to the ICC rule.

When Moeen Ali wore “Save Gaza” and “Free Palestine” wristbands in support of the Gaza war on day 2 of the third Test of the 2014 series against India, he sparked controversy.

However, the ECB sided with Ali, claiming that Moeen’s position was “humanitarian, not political.” Even worse, according to an English Cricket Board spokeswoman, “the ECB do not believe he has committed any violation.” David Boon, the match referee, denied the ECB’s approval for Moeen to wear the bands.
