Mohammed Shami Early Life
Shami’s father, Tauseef Ali, was a farmer and had once been a fast bowler. Shami was one of five children raised in the village of Sahaspur in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh. Shami was introduced to Badruddin Siddique, a cricket coach in Moradabad, a town 22 kilometres from his home, when he was 15 years old.
Throughout his stay at Moradabad, Shami put a lot of effort into perfecting his technique. After games, he would ask for the used balls so he could learn how to reverse swing the older ball, a talent that would be crucial to his success later in his career. Although he was chosen for the Uttar Pradesh under-19 team, Badruddin later moved him to Kolkata to improve his chances of being chosen for a state team. Debabrata Das, a former assistant secretary of the Cricket Association of Bengal, recommended Shami after he had played for the Dalhousie Athletic Club. Debabrata Das was impressed with Shami’s bowling and invited him to join Town Club. Das took Shami, who had no place to stay in Kolkata, to live with him. After bowling well for Town Club, Das asked one of the Bengal selectors, Sambaran Banerjee, to watch Shami bowl; Banerjee was impressed and selected him for the Bengal under-22 team.
Shami eventually joined one of Bengal’s top teams, Mohun Bagan Cricket Club, in order to get selected for the complete state team. In the Eden Gardens nets, he bowled to former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, who later recommended him to the state selectors. Shortly thereafter, Shami was chosen for the Bengal team to compete in the 2010–11 Ranji Trophy.

Mohammed Shami Bowling Style

Shami is a right-arm fast bowler who can move the ball both ways and off the seam by using swing, especially reverse swing. His average bowling pace has been about 140 km/h (87 mph), [149] with a peak of 153.2 km/h against Australia in the 2014 series at the MCG. Shami’s wrist, together with his flawless run-up and action, is the key to his success. He was originally criticised for seeking wickets too frequently while straying to leg, but he has recently somewhat adjusted his line of attack to the left.
In all formats, he has been referred to as “unplayable” due to his ability to take wickets and bowl with a reverse swing, making him one of the most lethal bowlers in the game.
Many previous cricket players have acknowledged and applauded Shami’s talent for consistently bowling yorkers at crucial moments.
His slightly split fingers come down so straight and his wrist is firmly cocked at the moment of delivery that the seam always emerges bolt upright.
