Early years:
Mohamed Saleh Hamed Mahrous Ghaly was born on 15 June 1992 to middle class parents. He was not good at academics and wanted to find a balance between his studies and football but could never achieve it. His parents due to their economic status wanted him to have a conventional career, however football always remained his top-priority. He joined a local academy called ‘El Mokawloon’ in Cairo to start honing his skills. At the age of 18, he was accepted into the senior team of his club, where he initially played as a substitute player but later on was promoted to a forward.

Basel:
- After the suspension of the Egyptian Premier League, in which Saleh played for El Mokawloon, Swiss club Basel who had been monitoring Saleh for quite a while saw their chance and organized a friendly match with Egypt U-23 team. Egypt won with a 4-3 score with two goals by Saleh.
- In April, 2012 he signed a four-year contract with Basel.
- He made his official debut under Basel in UEFA Champions League on 8 August.
- He scored his first league goal a week later in a 2-0 win against Lausanne. He scored his first Europa League goal on 11 April,2013 in a 4-1 Penalties win against Tottenham Hotspur.
- Basel went on to win the Swiss Super League season 2012-13 Championship title and finished runner-ups in the Swiss Cup.
- During his time with Basel, Saleh played a total of 95 games and scored 21 goals. He scored nine goals in the domestic league, four in the cup, seven in the European games and others were scored during test games.

Chelsea:
- On 23 January, 2014 Saleh was signed by Chelsea from Basel with a fee of £11 million, making him the first Egyptian to sign with the club.
- On 8 February Saleh made his debut under Chelsea in the Premier League, coming in as a substitute.
- He scored his first goal for the club against Arsenal coming on as a substitute; the match ended with a 3-0 win over Newcastle United.
- The 2014-15 season was pretty bleak for Saleh since he was rarely used, making just three Premier League,two UEFA and three cup appearances failing to score in any of these.
- In February 2015 Chelsea loaned Saleh to Fiorentina, an Italian club on an 18- month loan. He made his debut in this team on 14 February against Sassuolo, scoring his first goal within 30 minutes. At the end of the season, Fiorentina wanted to make the loan-move permanent but were refused by Saleh who wanted to instead join Roma.
Saleh joined Roma on a loan of €5 million, with the option to make the deal permanent,for €15 million on 6 August 2015. He made his debut on 22 August. In this season, Saleh scored a total of 15 goals in 42 matches with Roma finishing in third place in Serie A. He also won the club’s 2015-16 ‘Player of the season’ award.

Roma:
- Saleh signed with Roma on 3 August 2016 and scored his first goal of the season in a win over Udinese.
- He scored a hat-trick in a 3-0 victory over Bologna, also his first club hat-trick.
- This season remained bitter-sweet for him considering the two month period he went without any goal and the ruptured ankle he sustained.
- However, despite all that Roma finished the season with barely four points behind the season champions(Juventus) with Saleh scoring 19 goals in all the competitions.

Liverpool:
- In June 2017 Saleh transferred to Liverpool. He scored on his first Premier League debut against Watford in a 3-3 draw.
- In 2018 he was awarded the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award. He scored a brace in a 5-2 Champions league win over Roma and became the first African player and the first Liverpool player to score 10 goals in a single campaign tournament.
- His double goal also made him the second-highest goalscorer in a single season with 43 goals.
- He became the Premier League’s all time goalscorer for the 38th season earning him the Premier League Golden Boot.
- He signed another contract with Liverpool in 2018. He received the 2018 FIFA Puskás Award for goal of the year award.
