The following competencies are reflected in the syllabus:
Listening skill:
Ability to listen and comprehend to a-
- radio/TV news bulletin, speech, running commentary of a sports event, public announcement
Speaking skill:
Ability to —
- interview a person
- participate in role-play/conversation
All the various activities practised in class IX for the development of listening and speaking skills are to be recapitulated and reinforced.
Reading skill:
The following genres are to be included as reading texts—
- fiction
- non-fiction
- poetry
All the various activities practised in class IX for the development of reading skill are to be recapitulated and reinforced.
Grammar and Vocabulary:
Ability to—
- join sentences
- split sentences
- frame questions
All the various activities practised in class IX for the development of grammatical skills are to be recapitulated and reinforced.
Writing skill:
Ability to write-
- a notice
- a formal letter
- letter to the editor (relating to civic problems)
- letter in response to advertisement
Descriptive type Questions
- Report writing
- Summary writing
- Notice writing
- Letter writing (Formal/ Informal letter)
- Biography writing
- Story writing
- Paragraph writing
- Process writing
- Dialogue writing
